Kyrenia Gate is the only gate from the old wall of Nicosia that is on the North side of the city, as the other two gates, Famagusta Gate and Paphos Gate, are both in South Nicosia. It is also the best preserved gate. Built 500 years ago, this is still today a very intriguing building. Throughout the centuries the Venetians, the Ottomans and the British have walked through this gate leaving it a truly historical place. Not only did they walk through it, but they all left their specific marks on it in the shape of inscriptions on the walls. Today Kyrenia Gate acts as tourist information centre where you can get information and inspiration on your visit to Cyprus, but it is also a highly popular tourist attraction which is not a surprise due to its rich history. With its location in the walled city of Nicosia, Kyrenia Gate is situated near many other popular attractions.
